the future Dr. Zeidan

I can’t believe it has been so long since I updated. It seems so much has happened and I am sure I will forget something. I came to Detroit for commencement. It was fun, and also very wonderful to see my family and Jason. While I was there I also had a job interview that went well. It was really hard to go back to internship after that. I was basically just counting the days till I graduated. A few weeks after I was back I had some bad news. My dad was needing emergency triple bypass surgery. He madit through it, and is recovering well. He isn’t allowed to drive still, but he is able to go back to work. He rides with his friend who lives close. I was also offered the job at blue water counseling. I have accepted it, but I am waiting on my temporary limited license to come through before I can start.

Anyway, both Jason and my mom made it to Alaska to help me move out and to be there for my internship graduation. While I was very very very excited to be done with internship it was very hard to leave Alaska and also say goodbye to my internship cohort. Many of them are like siblings to me now. We got a chance to take my mom up to Hatchers Pass after graduation, and we explored the mine. On the way down there was this beautiful rainbow. It seemed like a movie set. That weekend we also got to go to Mt. McKinley. We did a flight tour with a glacier landing. It was amazing. I highly suspected Jason was going to propose, but he didn’t. He had always promised it would be before I moved in with him, but the next day he left. This left me feeling confused.

I flew back to Michigan 2 days later, and my cat and aly have been introduced. It hasn’t gone so well. Aly is terrified of Sonata, but Sonata doesn’t realize it. They can occasionally be in the same room. I have also seen a few friends, but for the most part I have been lazy or studying for the EPPP since getting your PhD isn’t enough. Yes that’s right I need another 2000 hours of supervised practice and to pass the EPPP before I will be fully licensed.

Last week I was really tired, and Jason came home and was like lets go for a hike. I refused and he looked kind of upset. He then suggested the mall. I eventually agreed to get dressed and go. He kept trying to get me to look at pictures of Alaska we had taken, but I kept saying I’d look in the car. He texted one to me and was being pushy about me looking. I kept saying in the car. He finally was like can I show you then. It was a picture we had taken at Mt McKinely and he had put Shannon will you marry me on a sign in the picture. Apparently he was having someone write it out on the hike we were going to take, but I screwed things up. Anyway, I am so excited and happy. We are planning an October 2015 wedding here in Michigan. In August our families are supposed to meet. There will be a blessing of the ring. This is something that I traditional for Jordanian weddings, and it is important to his father. Anyway, that’s it for now. Lots going on. I’ll try to update more frequently.

and so it begins

And so it begins. Actually I know I won’t finish writing this before it begins because it’s almost time for bed, so this is a two day blog for me. Tomorrow is hospital orientation. 7 am way to freaking early, but I will console myself with the fact it is 11 am in Michigan, not so bad right?

A lot has been happening here in Michigan. I finally got my condo signed on. I bought a bunch of furniture, and my mattresses will be delivered tomorrow. I had my internet/cable hooked up today. We are still in the hotel till Saturday night, and then my mom leaves on Sunday. I can’t say that I am too sad. I have come to realize I need to be able to have space to organize things the way I want and to make some mistakes. Anyway, she has helped a lot. Unfortunately they have started my grandpa on morphine. I don’t really know what that means, but she may try to make it back to Houston Saturday instead if need be. I hope my grandpa gets better. I know I won’t make it back there before the year is up, but I knew that when I saw him the day before I flew up here.

Jason and I have become even closer if possible (those who have seen us texting each other know what I mean). I couldn’t have gotten through this stress without him. I am maybe flying to Seattle to see him the end of July as long as I don’t work that weekend, and he is coming here the end of August through the beginning of September! Almost a full week and a half.  He also took Pavlov on some adventures before he shipped him my way, so I will be attaching those photos, but Pavlov was well fed and even did some work in the hospital before he had to catch his flight.

My mom and I also visited hill side which starts maybe 4 minutes out of anchorage. We drove to Whittier and the view is amazing. I’ll attach photos too. I can’t wait to get out and do more.

Oh and the exciting news is I ran today for the first time since my electric shock treatment for my foot. No pain so far! Keep your fingers crossed. I just saw an ad for mount marathon here in July. 26.2 miles up a mountain, think I should end my internship with a celebratory race next year? I do!

Now for day two updates. Actually this is not the day after. Hospital orientation left me exhausted. It was mainly for the residents so a complete waste of my time. I did find the fact we have a code for moose there funny. Other than that, boring!

After the orientation was over, my dad called, and my grandpa was dying. I called to try and talk, but they said he wasn’t awake or conscious. He passed away only minutes after. I won’t be able to make it home for the funeral, but I did get to see my grandpa right before I came up to AK. He was the same sweet mischievous man I know. He kept asking when I was leaving. That’s typical, but normally he also asks when I will be back. He didn’t do that. Instead he focused on Jason and where we might settle. I think he knew what was coming. I love that man so much! It won’t be the same without him.

Today I got the rest of my stuff moved in, and this will be my first night in my new place.

Wait is that Russia? Oh no it’s just a boat

So we arrived in Anchorage. What a trip. My beautiful kitty who looks so innocent refused to take her pill so she would sleep all the way here. It took us forever and then she had pink goo all over her face! Then of course its Houston so when I was loading the car I got all sweaty, gross! When we get to the airport yet again my mom decides its time for a hissy fit. So this sweet lady is trying to help us check the cat in, and my mom is totally going off on her and just spouting information while the lady was trying to make a call. Such is life. We got on the plane eventually. I took the Benadryl as prescribed by my dear boyfriend, but it only knocked me out for three hours. Seven and a half hours of sitting still! So I figured I could watch the Stanley cup game the rest of the way here, pretty cool right? Wrong. As we passed over British Colombia we lost DirecTV right when the game was STARTING!!!!! I had also just paid 8 bucks. Just my luck, I just ended up reading and thinking about my last week in Michigan. However, let me tell ya the plane ride into Anchorage is beautiful. I wish I had the window seat so I could have taken pics. I don’t care if it is uncomfortable, next time I want the window!!!!! So after we landed we were walking through the airport and I see a Humpy’s! Jason and I had talked about the name, so of course I had to take a picture and show him. Okay so as most people can tell mi Madre and I are not exactly getting along. Well we go to get our rental car and it wasn’t in the spot they told her. She threw the biggest fit in the parking lot leaving luggage in the middle of the street and screaming how Russia should take them back. Thankfully Jason texted me the whole time. He may not be here, but he is the reason I am still sane.

So Alaska, what can I say? Anchorage isn’t very big. I went to bed at 11:30 and it looked as bright as it did at 6:30 this morning. It’s beautiful though. I just hope I get a chance to enjoy it all. We have been apartment shopping today and some apartments have some amazing views. I met people from my internship today too. It’s a great family medicine center and the hospital looks lovely. That’s a good thing since it sounds like I’m going to be living there. Okay off to test drive cars! The update on Jason and my bet is he is up 2 on me. Boooooo! My players better step it up this next game, I do not want to eat oysters!
